Measuring the productivity levels of a country is a complex area best left to Economists.  The government’s role is to get the policy environment right by promoting policies that enhance our productivity such as investment in education, training and good health.  It is the responsibility of employers to manage the productivity of their employees by promoting initiatives that address these areas.  Increasingly we are seeing more companies invest in human capital with comprehensive benefits programs that focus on measurable outcomes.

The government insists on national standards

It is a relief to see that the federal government has insisted on national health and safety standards.  It is about time that all the states and territories are responsible for meeting set standards across the country.  I hope that the government will now turn its focus to poorly state run public hospitals.

The public is not waiting for the health care industry to get their act together on self-care.  And with over a billion internet users they are turning to the internet to put themselves back in the control of their health.  People are looking for greater self-control, greater self-emotional rewards from their lives and they are certainly looking for more connection with communities, hence the huge growth in online communities.  Consumers are using online health communities and health information not just for self-diagnosis but for self-validation.
